Collins: Dawson Lloyd Hughes, 77, of Staples Brook Road, Debert, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in the Colchester Regional Hospital Truro, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Green Oaks he was a son of the late William and Anne (Burris) Collins. Dawson is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Colleen P. Bailey; daughter, Mary; sons, Roger (Liz), Stephen (Julie), Larry (Mary); 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (Herman) Crowe; brothers, Russell (Nancy), Herbie (Frances); sister-in-law, Nancy (Fred) Lynds; brother-in-law, Darrell (Linda) Bailey; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, William E.; sisters, Dorothy Creelman, Edna Collins; sister-in-law, Roberta Bodenham, brothers-in-law, Seymour Creelman, Fulton Bodenham, Wayne Bailey, Rodney Bailey. Before his retirement in 2003 from Mountain Lee Golf Course, Dawson drove truck for John Ross and Sons for 19 years. He was also an Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No.26 Truro. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 3pm Monday, May 11, in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, Rev. Brian DeLong officiating, with interment to follow in the Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Nova Scotia Kidney Foundation.
