LYNCH (Canavan), Mary Grace, passed away peacefully at Wynn Park Villa Truro, on Thursday, May 13, 2010, just two weeks short of her 95th birthday. Born in Hillsvale, Hants Co., May 27, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Charles Judson and Mary Viola (Turple) Canavan. Mary and her husband Raymond raised four children in Newport Corner, Hants Co. In 1960, they moved to Truro and later owned and operated Mary's Grocery. After retiring in 1974, they spent many winters in Bradenton, Florida. Mary loved people and had a wonderful sense of humour. She enjoyed the company of others through church groups, bowling, quilting bees and family events. Many hours were spent sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and making dresses for friends. She liked to welcome new family members with a quilt and she won many ribbons for her handiwork in the Truro and Windsor exhibitions, even into the nineties. Her pastimes included crosswords, playning cards, scrabble and crokinole. Mom was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church in Truro, Good Neighbors and the Senior Bowling League. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; eldest son, Charles; brothers, Joseph, Lloyd, James, Gordon and Cecil; son-in-law, John Pate; She is survived by daughter, Helen Pate, Truro; sons, Lawrence (Christine), Wolfville; Darryl (Debra), Innisfil, ON; sisters, Pearl Amy Lauder, Ottawa; Evelyn McPhadden (Douglas Sproule), Whitby, ON; sisters-in-law, Myrtle and Clara Canavan and Isabel (Lynch), O'Hearn, Dartmouth; daughter-in-law, Wilma Lynch, Windsor; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter. The family offers heartful thanks to the staff of Wynn Park Villa in both the West and North wings for their kind and tender care, to Dr. Trevor Locke, to church deacons for their visits and acts of kindness and to Dr. Gary Curtis who saw Mom through some difficult times. Mom is resting at the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, from where visiting hours will be held 7-9pm today, May 14 and where funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, May 15, Pastor Cory Somers officiating, with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment will then be held in the Bible Hill Cemetery, Bible Hill. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of your choice.
