Roland Allison Metcalfe, 75, of Grande-Digue, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at The Moncton Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 23, 1934 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Pat Murphy and Elmire LeBlanc. Roland was a self-employed Mechanical Technologist and former employee with Reynolds' Aluminum in Baie Comeau prior to his retirement. He is survived by Anita (née O'Brien) Metcalfe, his best friend and beloved wife of 54 years, his daughter, Charline Metcalfe (René Ducasse) of Sayabec, QC., two grandsons: Philippe and Gabriel of QC ; a brother, Phillip Metcalfe (Claudette) of Haute-Aboujagane; three sisters: Betty Doody (late Al), and Sylvia Maltby (late Jim) both of Hamilton, ON, Barbara Lloyd (late Richard) of Guelph, ON, a brother-in-law, Francis O'Brien (Laure) of Shediac, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also predeceased by a sister, Cecile Daley. At his request, there will be no visitation and no funeral service. In memory of Roland, a contribution to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. The family would like to thank and express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff of The Moncton Hospital and of the Shediac Extra-Mural.
