Travis Fletcher
As husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Travis will be greatly missed. He cared deeply about his family and his unwavering support and wise counsel enriched us all. Travis passed away at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton on May 19, 2010. Travis was born on May 27, 1926 and was raised on the family farm in Beaverdam. He enlisted in the RCAF when he was 16, and subsequent to that, joined the Armored Corps of the army in 1945. Travis worked with The New Brunswick Electric Power Commission, retiring in 1983, following a 40-year career. He lived in Woodstock, where he was a member of the Reserve Military unit, the 89th Battery of 3rd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Armoured Artillery, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major. He was a valued and respected member of the community where he volunteered with the Cub Scout Pack and coached local minor hockey and baseball teams. Travis was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, the Lions Club and a coffee group called the Woodstock Liars Club. He was a member of the Barbershoppers and was always ready for a song and dance. Travis was also board member of the Carleton Manor Nursing Home. In 1992 Travis and Elizabeth returned to Fredericton. Although in later years Travis had Parkinson's disease, he still maintained an active social life with NB Power's 25 Year Club, the Golden Club, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 and a member of various coffee clubs. He recently moved to the Veterans Health Unit, where he received exemplary care from the dedicated staff. A number of valued friends showed their steadfast support by visiting Travis on a regular basis, and he took it as a personal challenge that no visitor would ever leave his room feeling sad! We are grateful that Travis was part of our lives. His wife, Elizabeth, children Liz Morrison (Peter Sisk), Fredericton; Pam (Dr. Brent Hayden), Lake City, Florida; Terry Fletcher (Janet MacKenzie), Grand Bay; Janice (Kevin McGrath), Saint John; and grand-children John Morrison, Ed Morrison (Allison Brown), Hugh Morrison (Janna), Meghan Hollett (Chad), Connor and MacKenzie Hayden, Harrison and Carter McGrath and Erin Sisk, and great-grandchildren Sydney and Spencer Morrison will miss him very much. He is also survived by his brother Sonny Fletcher (Donna) and his sister-in-law, Marce Fletcher. He is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Stella Fletcher, young son, Michael Jon, and brother, Bill Fletcher.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Friday, May 21, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a tribute Friday evening at 7:00 pm. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Travis' life at The Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity in Nasonworth on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Bruce McKenna will officiate. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery. If desired and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated.
