Marion \'Monie\' Arsenault

Born In: Bras d\'Or, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Millville, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: May 9th, 2009

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Monie Arsenault on May 9, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born in Bras d’Or, she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Marsh) Swann.
A cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, she was an inspiration to all who met her. She was a humble, religious lady with a heart of gold, whose whole life centered around her children. She truly defined ‘mother’. Not one to be socially active outside her home, there was nothing she enjoyed more than having a conversation and a cup of tea with the many friends and family who visited her, especially in the latter years when her mobility became more difficult. She never ceased to amaze people with her impeccable memory and stories of years past. She always said “I love people”, and it showed, with every kind word or gesture done. An avid Blue Jays fan, she was never too tired to watch a game or recall the stats.
She is survived by her three children, Art (Gwen), Big Bras d’Or, Cassie (Norman) Brochu, Millville, and Oscar (Debbie), Lower Sackville; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bridget (Reginald) Thurbide, Mill Creek, and Lois Currie, Bras d’Or; her sisters-in-law, Julia Swann, Florence and Marie Dandy, Alder Point; daughters-in-law, Linda, Halifax, and Glenda, Sydney Mines; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Fred, three sons, William, Peter and Joseph, brothers, Dennis, Oscar and Bryce, sisters, Katie and Maggie and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Arsenault.
Visitation today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Minees. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Parish, Bras d’Or or a charity of choice.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to d.francis@ns.sympatico.ca.
