The death of Joseph Randolph Smith, loving husband of Shirley Ann (Gibbon) Smith occurred peacefully surrounded by his family at the Kennebec Manor Home on Thursday, May 27, 2010. Born 1933 in Saint John he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Eleanor (Patchel) Smith. Joseph worked as a Pipefitter for Local 213 for 25 years. He volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years and also enjoyed many years of entertaining with his country music band. Besides his loving wife Shirley of 54 years, he is survived by his sons Randy Smith (Susan), Robie Smith (Susan), David Smith (Fern), Stephen Smith (Elaine) and Peter Smith (Jennifer) and daughter Lorrie Kierstead (Philip) all of Saint John; brother Earl Smith (Vera) of Passakeag; sisters Hazel Anderson, Marion Clark, Ruth Van Weston and Doreen Gillet; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Howard Seely and Donald Lawrence.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Saturday, May 29, 2010 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, May 30, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, May 31, 2010 at 2 p.m. A private family interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Garden Cemetery at a later date.
