Marie Conrod

Born In: Prince Edward Island, Canada

Passed in: Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: May 27th, 2010

RIVERTON/NEW GLASGOW - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary "Marie" Conrod, at Valley View Villa, on Thursday, May 27, 2010.
Marie was a lady of great strength and courage and although small of stature, her will was to be admired. Born one of seventeen children on November 5, 1918 in Waterford, PEI, she was a daughter of the late Patrick Gallant and Alice (Jones) Gallant.
At age 14, upon the death of her mother, she became the mother to the younger children. In December 1942, she married Richard Conrod of Trenton, NS and began her family life.
Surviving are sons: Roy (Mary), Ottawa; Reg (Valerie), Stellarton; Richard "Brent" (Pat), Brighton, ON; cherished grandchildren: Stephen (Valerie); Nancy, David (Tasha), Dwayne (Leanne), Deanna (Jerimy), Kevin (Laura) and her adored great-grandchildren, Laura and Brittany. Also surviving Marie are her sister Ann Bruce of PEI and brother Robert Gallant, Lorne, NS.
Marie was predeceased by her husband Richard, daughter Lillian and fourteen brothers and sisters.
Marie was a 25 year past member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Truro and worked for Stanfield's in Truro for many years before returning with her husband Richard, to Pictou County in 1981. Mom will be remembered for the many happy memories of family time, playing cards and Mom winning most of the time. She loved to knit and make sweaters and socks for her grandchildren. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. A light has diminished but a strong inner light has been passed on to those whom she touched. A lovely spirit lives on in others because of who she was.
Marie is resting at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow with visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Diabetic Association, Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, Valley View Villa Bus Fund or a charity of choice.
