BAIN - Ada Caroline Marguerite nee Barber, age 92 years of Meadow Lake, passed away April 1, 2009, at the Northwest Health Facility, Meadow Lake. Ada was born in Moose Jaw, the oldest of 3 children, and grew up on the family farm near Limerick, SK. After completing her high school she attended Normal School and received her teaching certificate. She took a leave from 1943 to 1945 to join the RCAF Women Division working as a supply tech in aircraft stores. After being discharged she returned to teaching. On July 15, 1948/ she married Bill Bain of Red Jacket, SK. They lived on the family farm near Red Jacket until 1957, when the family moved to the Swift Current area and Ada resumed teaching. She taught in many one room school houses, ending her career in Morse, SK. She taught all grades by the time she retired in 1981, after 34 years of educating children. During her retirement Mom enjoyed traveling the world with Dad, knitting, crocheting and visiting her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom was very independent and lived by her own rules. She loved to look at things and buy what ever she fancied. Her home was filled with the treasures she had purchased. Mom enjoyed gardening and often said she would be too tired to sweep the floor but could always pick up a hoe. She always had great success with both flowers and vegetables. Mom was a life member of the UCW and was involved in many other United Church boards. She was a member of the Saskatchewan Seniors and was instrumental in the building of the New Seniors’ Centre in Morse, SK. In 1997, Mom sold her home in Morse and moved to Meadow Lake, where she continued her busy retirement activities. In 2006, Mom moved from her home to the Northland Pioneers Lodge where she made new friends and received exceptional care. Ada was predeceased by her husband, Bill in 1992; daughter, Wilma Bain in 2005; son, Ron Bain in 2007; and son-in-law, Allen Forester in 2007; her sister, Betty Kemp and her husband George; and her sister-in-law, Joyce Barber. She is survived by her children, Cathy Forester (Meadow Lake), Barbara Bain (Calgary), and Ken and Carolyn Bain (Brooks); her six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald Barber; her sister-in-law Edith and Bob Preston; and numerous nieces and nephews. In her memory, donations may be made to the New Northland Pioneers Lodge (Furnishings) 515 3rd St W, Meadow Lake, SK, S9X 1L1.
