DELANEY, Robert Gerald "Bob" - 77, Bible Hill. With great sadness the family of Robert Gerald "Bob" Delaney wish to inform all that knew him of his passing on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born November 20, 1932, in Truro, to Freeman Howard and Florence Louise (Crowe) Delaney, Bob was the second of six children. Early on Bob worked at Federal Products as a machine mechanic. After service in the Army, Robert settled in Truro and worked as an auto mechanic at various locations until his retirement from Al Roland's Auto Electric in 1987. Dad was known as an independent person that had an ability to build and fix just about anything. He was an avid golfer, an angler and loved hockey, baseball, music and gardening. He was also a loyal past member of North River Fire Brigade. Our hearts go out to his companion, Betty Blair and her family, who joyfully shared the last twelve years of his life; a fun and active experience. Her support throughout his illness was a blessing to us all. Along with his parents, Robert was pre-deceased by his brother, Dexter; sister Louise in infancy. His spirit will live on through his sisters, Lyla Lynk, Mary Ann (Ernie Wilson); brothers, Thomas (Winnie), Curtis (June); children, Vicki (Jamie), Randy, Donna (Kelly Toole), Lori, Tim (Angie) and especially his grandchildren, Tyler and Kelsey Delaney and Morgan Toole. Dad's courage never wavered throughout his five-year battle with cancer, and he came to know and trust many who helped in his treatment. Our thanks go out to Dr. Jonathan Trites and the staff of the QEII, Halifax as well as Canadian Cancer Society, Colchester VON, Colchester Palliative Care and the Colchester Branch of Canadian Red Cross. All are invited to attend a graveside funeral service that will be held 3 p.m., Monday, June 7, 2010, in Onslow Island Cemetery, Pastor Terry Dryden officiating. Reception will follow in North River Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert's memory to Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Red Cross or Colchester Palliative Care Unit are welcomed.
