The death of Arlena Coy (Weston) of Upper Gagetown, NB, occurred at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Saturday, June 5, 2010. She was born on July 15, 1915 in Upper Gagetown (always claiming that she was born in a blueberry field) to the late Harry and Anne (Brooks) Weston. Arlena was a life member of the Upper Gagetown Women's Institute and she thoroughly enjoyed going to the meetings, conventions and the traveling dinners. She was also very active in the Upper Gagetown United Baptist Church. She held many offices throughout the years with both the Institute and the Church. Travel was also a passion of hers and during her life she was able to visit Hawaii, New Zealand, Holland and other parts of Europe. Many will remember Arlena from the Upper Gagetown Post Office where she served as Post Mistress from 1970-1980. She is the last surviving member, of her generation, in the Coy family. She will be missed by her sons, Cecil (Ella) of Upper Gagetown, Edward (Lynn) of Moncton and Brian of Upper Gagetown; sister, Edna Thomas of Fredericton; sister-in-law, Elva Weston of Rogersville; grandchildren, Denis (Tracy) of Dunoon, Scotland, Peter (Jill) of Upper Gagetown, Michael of Moncton and Katie of Fredericton; great-grandchildren, Alasdair and Weston as well as her special friends, Audrey Coy, Marilyn Rathburn, Marg MacDougall, Dr. Roxborough and her pet, Winnie. Besides her parents and husband, Cecil Coy who predeceased her in 1980, she was also predeceased by brothers, Henry and Paul Weston and her sisters, Florence McCordic and Ida Weston.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home (357-5100) on Monday, June 7, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will take place in the Upper Gagetown United Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Mark Todd officiating. Interment will follow in the Upper Gagetown Cemetery. Memorial tributes in Arlena's honor may be made to the Upper Gagetown United Baptist Church, the Upper Gagetown Cemetery or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
