It is with great sorrow we the family announce the sudden passing of Jim MacDougall, 86, of Glace Bay. Jim passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Bowers) MacDougall.
Jim was a veteran of the Second World War, Berma Star 435-436 Squadron. He was president and past president of Donkin Legion 05. He was employed with Dominion Coal Company and later Devco, electrical engineering, retiring in 1978. In his earlier years, he played hockey, fished in the Margaree River. He enjoyed many summers swimming at Mira Gut. He also enjoyed dancing and skating. Jim was an amateur radio operator since 1973 with the call letters VE1 AUJ.
He will be sadly missed by his companion, Greta Kearney; son, Rolland Corkum (Roylene), British Columbia, Allan (Florence), Glace Bay, Kevin (Marion), Alberta, Paul, British Columbia; stepchildren, Carol (John), British Columbia, Val (Don), British Columbia, Billy (Darlene), Bedford, Susan (Archie), Glace Bay, Margie, Antigonish, Paul, Sydney; brother, Tommy (Wanda); sisters, Evelyn (Joe), Betty (Neil), Barb (Lorne). Jim will also be sadly missed by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Hope Tanner and second wife, Pauline Ellis.
Visitation for Jim MacDougall will be held Thursday, May 14, 7-9 p.m. and Friday, May 15, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at Warden United Church with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. Interment will be Greenwood Cemetery.
