Jean Nickerson-Lloyd

Born In: United Kingdom

Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: May 12th, 2009

Jean Nickerson-Lloyd died peacefully in the presence of family on May 12, 2009 in Halifax. She was in her 98th year and the matriarch of her extended family.
Born in Liverpool, the daughter of Capt. Edgar and Jennie Inness, she attended Normal College, married and moved to North Sydney with her husband, Jerry Nickerson, in 1935. There they were involved in business (H.B. Nickerson & Sons Ltd.) and raised their family, Jerry (Jean), North Sydney; Harold (Dolores), Montreal; and Nancy Schibler (Eric); Bedford. Following retirement in Liverpool and Jerry’s death, she married Neil Lloyd and divided her time between Liverpool and Florida, enjoying the time and friends in both locations.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret McClearn, Myra Cole and Herbert Inness and Edith in infancy.
She leaves her sister, Mary Millard and stepson, Carol Lloyd.
Mom took great interest in the happiness and development of her grandchildren, Jerry Nickerson (Rui), Mark Nickerson (Stephanie), Jacquie Jackson (Ron), Lisa Shebib (Tom), Nanci Rorabeck (Tim), Mora Lyons (Rhys), Eric Schibler (Kirsten) and Brian Schibler (Jennifer). She loved the visits of her great-grandchildren, William Nickerson, Daniel and Peter Nickerson, Brett and Sarah Jackson, Natasha and Kevin Shebib, Kate and Matthew Rorabeck, Mia and Samantha Diedrich, and Ian and Ava Schibler.
Over the years she was caring, generous, supportive, proud and determined and we will all miss that.
We wish to thank the staff of both Melville Heights and Drummond Hall (Parkland Estates) as well as Drs. Christine McKenna and Valerie Lewis for their concern and understanding in caring for our mom.
Cremation has taken place with a family gathering, to celebrate a long and well lived life, to follow.
Mom would be pleased if you would do something kind for a senior with no family as a memoriam.
“Miss Me – But Let Me Go.
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – but not too long
And not with your head held low.
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me – but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart
Go to the fields we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me – but let me go…”
