It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of Sidney ‘Sid’ Parris Ford, age 64. Sid passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, May 13, 2009, with his loving family as his side.
Born in Glace Bay, Sid was the son of the late Edward and Helen (Whiting) Ford.
Sid was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He worked in the fishing industry for many years before starting his career with Devco. In 1999, he retired from Devco after 25 years of service. This enabled Sid to dedicate his life to his greatest joy, his family, especially his grandchildren, better known to them as ‘Poppy’. Sid was also well known for his favorite pastime ‘fishing’ and he will be fondly remembered as a fisherman at heart.
Sid is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary (O’Neil) Ford; three daughters, Kelly Ford (Raymond), Tracey Ford (Fred), both of Glace Bay and Sindy Ford, at home; five cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Dylan, Bailey, Lucas and Cameron. Sid is also survived by seven brothers, Jerry (Barb), Georgia, USA, James ‘Bunny’, Boston, USA, Archie (Kay), Hoyles (Gertie), Art, David ‘Rocky’ (Thelma) and Glenn (Linda); three sisters, Frances (Bill Sudworth), Delores (Mike Kelloway) and Alice (Jerry Bennett); many nieces, nephews and his friend, Jimmie.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brothers, Daniel (in infancy) and Paul.
In honouring Sid’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009 in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A reception will follow.
