It is with great sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of Carl Petite, on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Art and Rachael (Young) Petite.
Carl was employed with the Chronicle Herald as circulation manager of the Sydney area for 30 years. Due to illness he retired from the newspaper and decided to do carpenter work which was his hobby and pastime where he made and met a lot of great friends.
Carl is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis (Coombs); his children, David (Jacqui), Toronto, Ont., Kelly (Scott), Lantz, N.S., Greg, at home, Tommy, Ontario; his beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew and Taylor, who he loved dearly and enjoyed every minute with them. Also surviving are his two sisters, Allie (Lorne) Fahie, Big Bras d’Or, and Nellie (Sonny) Dolson, Toronto.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Kenny, sisters, Marguerite, Elaine, and one brother, George.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 15 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island. Funeral mass will follow at 2 p.m. in St. Barra Church, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Interment to follow in church cemetery.
