John Thomas Cornfield of West Saint John, NB, passed away on June 15, 2010, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in West Saint John, NB on October 1, 1914, he was a son of the late Henry and Jessie (Gates) Cornfield. John worked at Ridgewood Golf and Country Club and was a Longshoreman. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Air Force maintaining aircraft. After the war John worked with L.E. Shaw in Saint John and Sydney, N.S., retiring from T.S. Simms and Company. John and his wife Vivian enjoyed camping at Oak Point. He was a true gentleman who loved to read and was a wealth of knowledge. He is survived by his brothers, Murray (Norma), Rothesay; Vernon, Kensington,P.E.I.; sister, Jessie Byers, Oromocto; several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his loving wife Vivian (McCracken) Cornfield, brothers, Philip in infancy, James, Andrew, George and Harry, sister Florence Lewell.
Arrangements are entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, West Saint John, N.B. with visitation on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 3p.m. Burial to follow in Cedar Hill Extension. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N.B.
