It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James MacNeil of Reserve Mines. James passed away peacefully on Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Irishvale, Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Roderick and Elizabeth (MacMullin) MacNeil. Jimmy lived and worked most of his life on Cape Breton Island, moving to Newfoundland in 1990 and returning in February, 2010 with his wife Elizabeth to reside with his stepdaughter, Dorothy in Reserve Mines.
While living in Newfoundland he was a member of St. Michael's Church in Port-Aux-Basque.
Jimmy was a very gentle, soft spoken, easy going person. He had a passion for woodworking; he made several fiddles and numerous miniature lighthouses for family and friends. Jimmy also enjoyed playing card games, especially solitaire.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Anderson) MacNeil; stepdaughters, Florence, Dorothy, Veronica, Carmel; stepsons, Felix, Roderick, Junior, Martin; sisters, Catherine, Rita, Margarite, Shirley and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by sisters, Mary, Kate, Cecilia, Marie, Annie, Florence, Josephine; brothers, Angus, Roddie and John.
In honouring Jimmy's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday, June 18, 2010 at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment for James will be taking place at a later date.
Donations in Jimmy's memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
