Born In: Gardiner Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed in: Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: June 16th, 2010
It is with a sense of loss and heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of our aunt Rita McGillivary at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.
Born and raised in Gardiner Mines, she was the daughter of the late John James and Veronica (Petrie) Warburton. As a young lady, she met and married the late Alex McGillivary and moved to Bridgeport where she resided until she moved to Dominion in 2000.
Rita was employed as a C.N.A. at the New Waterford Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital, Glace Bay in the pediatric departments until her retirement. She loved animals and could usually be found sitting in her rocking chair with her cat on her lap. An avid gardener, in the spring she would spend hours planting her flowers. In cooler weather she spent her time crocheting and most of all quilting, for family and friends.
Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family and will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband Alex, Rita was predeceased by beloved sisters Margaret Hill, Agnes Ulrich, Beatrice Warburton, Ethel Warburton; brothers Gordon, James, and her longtime friend Kay Flynn.
For the last two years Rita was a resident of Victoria Haven Nursing Home in Glace Bay.
In honoring Rita's wishes there will be no public visitation.
A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010 at St. James Church, Gardiner Mines with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, with a reception following in the church hall.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Donations in Rita's Memory may be made to St. James Church or a charity of choice.
