Angus MacLeod, age 66, of Pitt Street, Glace Bay, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Angus was the son of the late John and Frances (Fry) MacLeod. Angus’ mother passed away when he was young and he was then raised by his great-aunt, Mary Ferguson and his cousin, Elizabeth Duder, Glace Bay.
Angus was employed by Devco for 30 years, working in No. 26 and Phalen Mine.
Angus is survived by his wife, Joyce Rowe; his four children, David (Kim), Dartmouth, Melinda (David), Dartmouth, Wade (Carrie), Virginia, Clinton (Sherry), Glace Bay; his four stepchildren, Beverley Read (Rick), Ontario, John Read (Tanya), Glace Bay, Bill Read (Sheri), Ontario, Robert Read (Jeanette), Glace Bay; three sisters, Anna (Joe) Dorshe, Catherine Weiler, Joan (Ronnie) McIlveen, all in Ontario and sister-in-law, Betty MacLeod, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Renee, Chantelle, Tyler, Chaylene, Kyle, Kelsey, Mason, Jaden and Camron; step-grandchildren, Nicolas, Taylor, Evan, Matthew, Garrett, Aaren and Brydon and several nieces and nephews.
Angus is also survived by his dear friends, Omar MacPherson and Edgar McLeod, who sat by his side most of his four years while Angus battled ALS.
Besides his parents, Angus was predeceased by brothers, John Edward ‘Junior’, John Francis ‘Francie’; sister, Mary Wadden ‘Sis’ and his great aunt, Mary Ferguson.
Cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A memorial service to celebrate Angus’ life will be held Monday, May 18, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Warden United Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery. A reception will follow at Vespers by the Sea, 11th Street, New Aberdeen, Glace Bay.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Glace Bay/Regional hospitals and their nursing staff for the care and support over the last four years; and a special thank you to Dr. Rehman.
