The family of Greta May Moffitt, wife of the late Willard Norman Moffitt, announces her death on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 22, 1918 in Norton, King's County, NB, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Sophia (Northrup) Langell. Greta was a retired Registered Nurse; a proud graduate of Chipman Memorial Hospital in St. Stephen. Before there was a hospital and 911 in McAdam there was "Call Greta". She cared for the elderly and afflicted. She delivered babies. Greta assisted the village doctors and continued to attend the sick when doctors were not available. She worked at Harvey Hospital as well as the McLean Memorial Hospital in McAdam during the end of her nursing days. Greta was a member of the Rockland Drive United Baptist Church, McAdam, NB. She sang in the choir, directed the junior choir and was Sunday School Superintendent. Greta enjoyed her forty years of retirement at Magaguadavic Lake. Good fishing with Willard, writing poetry, sunsets, and grandchildren filled her days on the lake. Greta will be lovingly remembered by her son, Gordon L. Moffitt and daughter-in-law, Mary (Thorburn) Moffitt of Fredericton, NB. Greta will also be fondly remembered by her two grandsons, Dr. Matthew Moffitt (Diane) of Victoria, BC and Dr. Stephen Moffitt of Los Angeles, California; great granddaughter, Isabel Kathlene Moffitt; sisters, Janet McNair of Sussex Corner, NB, Ethel McCartney of McAdam, NB, Freda Periard of Sault St. Marie, ON and Margaret "Peggy" McMillan (Bert); sisters-in-law, Myrtle Moffitt of McAdam, NB and Edna Watson of Montreal, QC; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Greta was predeceased by her sisters, Ruby Somerville, Tressa Langell and Viola Wolff; brothers, John and George Langell.
A Memorial Service in memory of Greta will take place at Rockland Drive United Baptist Church , McAdam , NB on Saturday, July 24 at 2pm with Rev. Scott Kohler officiating. A private interment will take place at Rockland Cemetery in McAdam. Those who desire may make memorial donations in memory of Greta to a charity of the donor's choice.
