The death of Welsford Fire Chief James Edward Lanigan, occurred on June 22, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born December 22, 1941, the son of Evelyn (Comeau) Lanigan, Ocean Westway; and the late Francis Lanigan. He was the current Chief of the Welsford Fire Department and was a District Chief of the Saint John Fire Department retiring after 35 years of service. He was also a member of Local Service District of the Parish of Petersville, second Vice-President of the City of Saint John Retiree's Association and coached Lancaster Minor, Centennial, and Senior hockey. In addition to Elizabeth Ann (Burns), his loving wife of 49 years and his beloved mother Evelyn (Comeau) Lanigan, he is survived by his children Andrew (Bernice), Maces Bay; Peter (Brenda), Tom (Tanya), John (Tammy), Tim (Erin), and Kelly (Craig) all of Saint John, grandchildren, Ryan Josh, Matt, Chris, Brad, Bethanie all of Saint John; Alan, Ontario; Emily , Fort Saint John, British Columbia; Robyn, Alyssa, Akeighla, all of Quispamsis; Courtnay, Brittnay, Welsford; Shannon, Katie, Grand Bay - Westfield; Jessica and Leeann of Saint John, great grandson, Camden, Saint John, sisters, Judy (Wayne) Buchanan, Quispamsis; Carol (Rusty) Arbeau, Lepreau; Leah (Ricky) Leavitt, St. George; Dawn (Gary) Alexander, Saint John and Bev (Peter) Floyd, Quispamsis, brothers, Pat (Nancy), Quispamsis; Mike (Yvette), Hammond River; Tony (Maureen), Belle Isle and Ken of Saint John, brother-In-Laws, Joe (Barb) Burns, Norman Burns, Mike (Karen) Burns, Jim (Judy), Fred (Mary) all of Saint John; Ken (Sherrie), Norton; Bill, Welsford; Larry Mason and Bill Shea both of Saint John, sister-in-laws, Joan (Bill) Bastarache, Saint John; Peggy (Bob) Matheson, Montreal; Tina
(Don) Matheson and Connie (Dan) Hooper both of Saint John, many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by brothers, Francis and Paul, Mother-In-Law, Mary (Shannon) Burns, Father-In-laws, James Burns, Sister-In-laws, Susie (Burns) Mason and Casey (Burns) Shea. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. 634-1701) with visiting on Wednesday and Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, June 25, 2010, at 12 noon from Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
