It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my brother, Daniel W. MacDonald at the Harbour View Veteran’s Hospital, Sydney Mines, Friday, May 15, 2009. He was 88 years of age.
Born in Westmount, he was the son of the late Alexander and Annie (MacAulay) MacDonald.
Dannie was a veteran of the Second World War. He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and landed in Caen, France on D-Day. He served in Holland and Germany as well until the end of the war. He was employed by Sysco steel plant for 38 years until his retirement in 1984.
He will be sadly missed by his sister, Eleanor MacDonald, Point Edward; and his special friend, Rachel Long.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Edward.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home. A private legion tribute and graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 20, at 11 a.m. in the Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney-Glace Bay Highway. Pastor Sheldon Chant will officiate.
