Russel Vernon Fielding, 87, passed away May 17, 2009.
Born in Onslow Mountain, he was the son of the late Eugene and Ethel (Crowe) Fielding.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Canadian Army. He worked several years for Lewis Ltd. in Truro and then went to work for CN Express as a truck driver. After retiring, he spent many summers at “the cottage” in Economy. His greatest joy was his family and he was always happiest when they were around. He loved to play cards and his laugh was infectious. He was a “Mr. Fix – IT” always ready to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. In his later years, his passion was the Truro Junior A Bearcats where he held season tickets.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise (Peppard); sons Russell (Adriana), Truro, Allan (Lynn), Economy; sisters Rita (Frank) Rice, Julia Blackmore, Shelia (Kelly) Callahan, Marilyn (James) Waller, Barbara Atkinson, Hazel Delaney; brothers Fred (Helen), Jack; Aunt Celia Lynds; grandchildren Jennifer Louise, Catherine Anne; step-grandchildren Dawn, James, Justin; several great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by brothers Gerald in infancy and Sherman; grandson Robert Lee in infancy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be Thursday, May 21 at 3 p.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Eugene MacNutt officiating. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colchester Regional Hospital Palliative Care or charity of choice.
