It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rhoda Whiffen announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, on Friday, June 25, 2010. She will be sadly missed by four sons: Anthony (Dorothy) of Oshawa, Ontario, Edwin of Stephenville, John (Laurie) and Peter (Donna), all of Oshawa, Ontario; five daughters: Genevieve (Pat) Mulrooney of Stephenville, Esther (Gerald) Peddle of Deer Lake, Violet (Barry) Durdle of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Rita (Mark) O'Neill of Corner Brook and Margaret (Clarence) Aucoin of Stephenville; two brothers: William (Annie) Best and Alexander (Gertrude) Best, all of Southern Harbour; five sisters: Catherine Hutchings of Atlanta, Georgia, Martha (Tom) Flynn of Freshwater, Josephine (Gerard) Traverse, Cecilia (Jack) Parsons and Violet Whiffen, all of Southern Harbour; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Whiffen; eight infant sons; parents, Bridget & John Best; brothers: Patrick Best and Malcolm Best; and sisters: Esther Whiffen and Mary Ellen Lynch. Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Monday, June 28th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Parish, West Street, Stephenville with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations to a charity of one's choice would be greatly appreciated.
