It is with sadness that we announce the death of Leslie Mackay Ross of Moose Jaw on May 17, 2009 whose tranquil passing befitted a man loved and respected for his gentle spirit, compassion, forbearance and steadfastness. Born to Gertrude and George Ross on July 25, 1917, Les embraced farm life and until recently, lived on the family homestead where he raised his family and exemplified the kind-heartedness, generosity and neighborliness for which the prairie farmer is legendary. In 1989, Les and Isabelle were honoured by the Moose Jaw Agricultural Society as Farmer of the Year. Predeceased by his parents, Leslie is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years Isabelle; sons: Murray (Judy) – Parksville, B.C., Gordon (Connie) – Moose Jaw, Donald (Jackie) - Regina, and Michael Ross – Moose Jaw and daughter, Barbara (Doug Schmidt) - Craven. Left to mourn are his grandchildren: Sarah, David, Jason (Lindsey), Jody (Troy) Setter, Ryan (Denise) Schmidt, Tara (Aaron) Schweitzer; Greg (Nicole) Schmidt, Riley (Stefanie) Schmidt, Krystal (Trevor) Kutsak, Tim (Jeanne), Daniel, Jay (Carrie), and Kristie Ross. Leslie is also survived by great-grandchildren Emily, Gracie, Macey, Brady, Abbey, Zachary, Reid, Avery and Atley; his brother, Harvey (Shirley) – Regina; as well as many nieces and nephews. Les will be remembered as a quiet, kind man who gave unselfishly to his family and his community. He will be missed. A private family service will be held. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
