TRENTON - Gertrude Clarissa "Gertie" (Fraser) MacKenzie, age 79, of Trenton, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 3, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Trenton, Gertie was the daughter of the late John Henry and Grace Wilena (MacAulay) Fraser.
She worked in retail for many years at Greendal's and K-mart. Gertie loved small dogs and children and was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Until recent years, she was an avid reader who took considerable joy from many types of books.
She is survived by a loving family, daughter, Janet (Ronnie) Purvis, Trenton; son, Herbert (Florence) MacKenzie, St. Catharines, ON; grandsons: Scott Purvis, Trenton; Jason Purvis, Truro; Sean Curran, Toronto; granddaughter, Tina (Curran) MacFarlane, Waterloo, ON; great-grandchildren: Liam and Daniel, Waterloo; Hide-aki, Toronto; Rachelle, New Minas; special family relative "Nat" Murray; three grand-dogters: Ceilidh, Meghan and Muffin.
She was predeceased by her husband, George MacKenzie; infant son, George; brothers, Roderick "Roddie" Fraser and Robert "Bob" MacAulay, all of Trenton.
In accordance with Gertie's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial service 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton, with family friend Fergie MacKay officiating. Reception to follow in the First United Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
The family offers sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Aberdeen Hospital.
