It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hugh Francis Gallant age 52, of Amherst announce his passing on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Born in Amherst he was a son of Geraldine (Nelson) Gallant of Amherst and the late Frank Gallant. After graduating from Amherst Regional High School he attended Maritime Forest Ranger School in Frederiction where he received his Forest Ranger diploma. Hugh worked for the Department of Natural Resources for 27 years as a Conservation Officer, working out of the Oxford office. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Hugh was involved in Christmas tree managment and took great pride in providing Christmas trees to the local area and his family and friends. Besides his mother, Hugh is survived by his son Matthew of Amherst, sisters Margaret (LeRoy) Morris of Amherst and Lois (Doug) Noiles of Upper Nappan, N.S., brothers Roger (Elaine) of Calgary, AB and Robert of Amherst and several nieces and nephews. Hugh was predeceased by his wife the former Kathy Ripley and a daughter Erin. His family will receive visitors at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from First Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating. Interment will take place in the St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
