It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Peter Bernard McGillivary on May 20, 2009.
Born in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Charlie and Kate (Walsh) McGillivary.
In his early years he attended school in Bridgeport; then was employed by Devco working in the coal mines; and often spoke of the family kitchen parties growing up.
Peter is survived by his wife, Johanna (nee Martell) of New Victoria; his children, Peter, Moncton, Cathy McGillivary (Dwayne Campbell), Dominion, Danny, Sydney, Pauline (Greg) Petite, Glace Bay, Paddy, Glace Bay, Anne (Paul McGinn), Newfoundland, Dorothy (George McInnis), Sydney, and Ellen (Kevin) Poirier, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Lindsay (Adam Merril), Samantha, Adam, Kristin, Ashley, Ryan, Bailey, Peter, Emily, Emma and Riley. Also surviving are sisters, twin Sadie (Lawrence) Donovan, Cecelia McGillivary and May Graham; brothers, Pius (Rose), Jimmy (Bernadette) and Ralph; sister-in-law, Bunny, all of Glace Bay. He will also be missed by his ‘best buddy’ Champ and by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.
Peter was predeceased by brothers, Johnny, Danny, Charlie, Naish and Joey.
Visitation this evening (Thursday) 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Burial in the parish cemetery.
