Banman - Dorothy Maud passed away, peacefully, May 12, 2009 at Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert after a lengthy battle with cancer. Dot was born January 24, 1929 in Hamilton, North Dakota. She came to Prince Albert with her parents in the fall of 1929. They later homesteaded at Tweedsmuir, Sask. Dot taught school at Lake Four, Saskatchewan [now Park Valley] where she met her husband Jacob [Jake] Banman. They were married in January 1948 and later that year moved to Kimberley B.C. where they raised their two children.
Dorothy was predeceased by Jake in 1987, her father Robert Risedorf in 1972 and her mother Viola Connell/Shaw in 1977. She is survived by her children; Barbara Hunt [Fred] of Kindersley, SK., Jim Banman [Alanna] of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and step-daughter Doreen [Leo] Proulx of Prince Albert; her grandchildren Christina [Brian] Hamm, of Cranbrook, B.C. Steve Cupples [Jackie] of Etonia, SK; Dana [Craig] Johnston of Vancouver, James Banman [Kendra] of Prince Albert, Michael Banman and Joshua Banman of Prince Albert. Also eight great grandchildren: China-Dayle, and Shekinah Hamm; Kimberli, Jeremiah, Kara, Stepheni and Evan Cupples, Aaron Johnston; her brother Herb Risedorf [Grace-Anne] of Nanaimo B.C. and their children Rodney Risedorf and Gwen [Vince] Briggs; and Doreen’s children Mark [Vonda] Frenette, Shayne Frenette, and Michelle [John] Korzenoski.
Private interment was held at Sturgeon Valley on May 19, 2009. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Scarborough Baptist Church 2650 6th Avenue East, Prince Albert, on May 31, 2009 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Society or charity of choice.
