DONALD L. LANGE

Born In: Mission City, British Columbia, Canada

Passed in: British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: June 26th, 2010

After fighting the effects of lymphangectasia for many years, Don lost his battle with this rare disease on June 26, 2010 at the age of 76.

Don was an 8th generation Canadian born in Mission City, BC to Ira "Harry" and Minnie (Anderson) Langille and was raised on the family dairy & berry farm near Matsqui Village (Ridgedale).

He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters; Audrey and Shirley and his nephew Vern Hannah.

He leaves a wife of 48 years (Jo) and two sons (Dr. Bruce Lange and Dean Lange), their wives (Dr. Kathryn Barbour and Leanne Lange) and four beautiful granddaughters whom he loved immensely. Don was also very fond of his many nieces and nephews.

He excelled in both academics and athletics, attending UBC on football and academic scholarships after setting several BC high school track and field records - some of which stood for decades. After graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy in 1958 he practiced as a pharmacist and successful businessman for over 40 years - providing extraordinary service to the countless patients who entrusted him with their pharmaceutical care. He ran Westsyde Pharmacy throughout the 1970's and 1980's.

Don was an avid outdoorsman who always made time to hunt, fish and ski with his family. He had a deep appreciation for the grasslands and lakes around Kamloops and loved to hike in the hills above Westsyde. He considered Shuswap Lake to be his "cathedral" and spent many vacations there communing with nature, boating & camping on its shores with family and friends. Don enjoyed the challenge of golfing and was a member of the Kamloops Golf and Country Club. He also spent several winters with Jo at their place overlooking the Gila Mountains in Yuma, Arizona.

A truly caring and gentle soul, Don had an active mind right to the end. All those who knew Don will miss him greatly.

Don's family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Robert Reynolds at VGH, for his compassionate and comprehensive care of Don over the years.

A memorial service in Kamloops is planned for this fall - Don's favorite season.
