It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, devoted father, and caring son and brother. Trev lost his brief battle with cancer and passed away peacefully during the night of Tuesday, June 29th, 2010 with his wife and sister by his side. He was 50 years old.
Trevor was born on April 15, 1960 in Nanaimo, B.C. to Rubin and Norma Schmidt. The family eventually relocated to Kamloops where they remained for several years. Trev attended Norkam Senior Secondary where he met his high school sweetheart, Lisa Flach. He graduated in 1979 and eventually joined the B.C. Forest Service where he worked in various departments until his recent illness. Working for the Forest Service was a good fit for Trev as he loved the outdoors so much. In 1988, he and Lisa wed which was then followed by the birth of their three children whom he absolutely adored and was so proud of.
Trevor has been active in the community whether it was playing men's slowpitch and curling, or coaching minor softball, hockey and curling. Trevor was also the president of Merritt Minor Hockey for several years. One of his favourite passions was to watch his son Eric as he participated in various sporting activities.
Trevor will be deeply missed and always remembered by his loving wife Lisa, daughters Shaina and Natalie, son Eric, father and mother Rubin and Norma Schmidt of Sun Peaks, brother Brent Schmidt (Wendy Nault) of McClure, sister Tracey (Steve) Jones of Penticton, father-in-law Doug Flach (Trudy Forsberg) of Kamloops, mother-in-law Linda LaFleur of Armstrong, brothers-in-law Darren Flach of Calgary, Wade (Tina) Flach of Victoria, and sister-in-law Michelle Hutchinson (Randy Hughes) of Ladysmith, nieces and nephews Aurel, Dayne, Christopher, Garrett, Brody, MacKenzie and Avery and also his pets Nicky and Oscar.
Trevor's family would like to thank the Kamloops Cancer Clinic and Dr. Smit. We would also like to thank the nurses on seven north at Royal Inland Hospital that showed extra compassion towards Trevor during his last days, especially Kelly who was a huge support for us during his final hours. A huge passion and inspiration for Trevor, especially during this battle with cancer, was to build a small cabin on his newly acquired property at Deka Lake. We know that these thoughts brought him comfort during his last days.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Trevor on Sunday July 18, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Merritt Civic Center at 1950 Mamette Ave.
If people wish, they may donate to the BC Cancer Foundation #600 - 686 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1G1.
