We, the family, with heavy hearts, regret to announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, mentor and friend, Violet MacDonald at 98 years young on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.
Violet was born in Glace Bay, but lived most of her life in Louisbourg and later, in Sydney.
Violet leaves behind to mourn, her daughter, Dolores Young (Harold), Ottawa; son, Danny (Mary), Dartmouth, 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; sister, Mazie Snelgrove (Abe); sister-in-law, Blanche Coveyduc and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Danny; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Joe Matthews; brothers, Bill, Jim and Layton; sisters-in-law, May and Gertrude Coveyduc and one granddaughter in infancy.
Violet’s humor and zest for life will be missed by all, especially by her granddaughter, Brenda with whom she spent many hours driving and getting lost with.
There will be no visitation by request and a memorial service will be held on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
