Margaret Grace (Nicholson) Butler, 88 of Sydney, N.S., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, N.S.
Born in Jersey Cove, Cape Breton on May 28, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Effie (Buchanan) Nicholson. Margaret was a resident of Sydney and a valued employee with Sobeys, Sydney for over 30 years.
She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Many will remember visiting the homestead at Jersey Cove, C.B. and enjoying Margaret's warm hospitality as she welcomed family and friends with the ever present hot cup of tea and plate of scones.
She is survived by her sister, Anne Bishop, New Minas, N.S., her caregiver during the past three years and with whom she made her home during the past six months. Nephews, Cameron (Allison) Bishop and their daughter, Susan, Ardrossan, Alta., Martin (Elizabeth Snook) Bishop, Dartmouth and his daughters, Pamela Bishop and Valerie (Justin) Dowding, Dartmouth, Alex Nicholson, Fletcher's Lake, N.S., Clark Nicholson, Englishtown, N.S., Philip (Brenda) Butler, New Glasgow, N.S., Brian (Debbie) Butler, Fall River, N.S. and their family, Darryl, Colin (Naomi) and Tara Butler; nieces, Anna (Greg) MacDonald, Halifax, N.S., Marie (Joe) Gregoris and their son, Mitchell, Etobicoke, Ont., Audrey Nicholson, Toronto, Ont., Peggy Nicholson, Halifax and Karen Forbes, Canandaigua, N.Y.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, John Butler, Sydney; a sister, Catherine Forbes, P.E.I.; brothers, Murdoch and Donald of Jersey Cove and John of Englishtown.
Visitation for Margaret will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney. Funeral will take place in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Burial in Hardwood Hill Cemetery
Funeral arrangement have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sydney.
Our appreciation to the VON, Sydney and Kentville and the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Unit, Sydney.
A very special thank you to the staff of Medical A & B at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, for their exceptional care and compassion to both Margaret and her family.

In Kentville donations may be made to the VON Palliative Care, the Valley Regional Hospital Medical Unit A & B, or charity of choice.
