L. Albert Bourque

BOURQUE, L. Albert - 86, passed away peacefully on July 4 after a very brief illness. Born November 2, 1923, he was the son of the late Arthur and Therese (Amirault) Bourque. Albert retired from the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sophie M. (Belliveau) Bourque, as well as his children, Gloria (Bill) Muise, Oliver (Cheryl) Bourque, Priscilla (John) Fitzgerald, Yvette (Albert) d'Eon, and Michael (Cécile) Bourque. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Frank (Jennifer) Muise, Jim (Nancy) Muise, Heather (Matthew) Hatt, Melanie (Dave) MacLean, Amanda LeBlanc, Christopher (Betty) Fitzgerald, Lisa (John) Terzella, Philip Bourque and Vincent Bourque; great grandchildren, Taylor, Anthony, Ryan M., Aidan, Jenna, Alex, Olivia, Brandon, Allison, Collette, Reece, Sheamus, Kennedy, Ryan LB. and Zach, as well as by his sister, Margaret Bourque; brother-in-law and long-time friend, Simon (Marie) Belliveau, and their children; sisters-in-law, Eugenie Nickerson and Velma Belliveau, and their families. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters in infancy; a grandson, Phillip Andrew, in infancy; a brother, Eugene; a sister, Rita. As well as being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Albert was known for his commitment to the church and to the Knights of Columbus, where he was a Past Grand Knight of Msgr. William A. Penney Council 2181, Yarmouth, and a member of the Msgr. W. E. Young Fourth Degree Assembly 1428, Yarmouth. He will be remembered for his active involvement in the community, his zest for life and youthful energy as well as his keen sense of humour and his love of children and animals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Msgr. William A. Penney K. of C. Council 2181, Yarmouth, or to the Tri-County branch of the V.O.N. Visitation took place from 2-4 and again from 7-9 on Tuesday, with prayers at 8 p.m., both at H. M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth (www.huskilson.net). The funeral mass was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 7 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated, assisted by Rev. Mr. Steven Bourque. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. The family sends sincere thanks for the exceptional and compassionate care given to Albert by Dr. Ridha and Dr. Mustafa, as well as by the nurses of 4th South and the outpatients department of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
