Stephen Andrew Sorrey, Cottage Court, Sydney, passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Darren Sorrey and Catherine (Riley) Sorrey.
Stephen's love for building began early in life. At the age of five, he built his first of many tree houses, leading to his career in carpentry. Stephen had a passion for wood working, tools and a deep respect for wood itself, greatly appreciating the feel and smell of it. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 1588, Sydney, obtaining his Red Seal certification as a Journeyman Carpenter. His finished work can be found in many homes across Cape Breton. Stephen also enjoyed boating, spending time on his ATV, and working on trucks and cars. He was well liked by all who knew him and will be sadly missed. As one last act of kindness, Stephen was a multiple tissue and bone donor, potentially benefiting 150 people.
In addition to his parents, Stephen is survived by his wife, Deanna Bernard, and children, Victoria and Ryan, all of New Waterford; sister, Emilee, Sydney; maternal grandmother, Audrey Riley, PEI; paternal grandmother, Jessie Sorrey, PEI; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at United Baptist Church on Thursday 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Hussey officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Search and Rescue and Kids Sport Nova Scotia.
