1925 - 2010 - Merle Nowlan, 85 of Elgin, son of the late Joseph and Mercy Nowlan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 13th, 2010, at The Moncton Hospital. Merle joined the Merchant Marine during the WWII. He owned a taxi stand and a restaurant in Mississauga for a time. He worked for Atlantic Underground Services until he retired. Enjoyed playing Santa for young and old at the Riverview mall for many years and loved telling stories of his adventures. He is survived by his common law wife Pauline, one sons, Peter (Maurise), four daughters; Wanda, Cindy (Lorne) Carter, Cheryl and Nicole Travase, step children; Mike, Cathy, Ava, Alexander, Tina and Timothy. He will also be sadly missed by one sister, Josephine Hall, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by, one grandson, Alexander, two brothers, Russell and Morris, four sisters; Shirley, Irene, Catherine and Mildred. A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Saturday, July 17 at 11:00 am followed by a reception in the Garden View Reception Room. Interment to be held in Elgin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CNIB, Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
