Normand « Smokey » Bastarache - 1947 - 2010. It is with great sadness the family of Normand Smokey Bastarache, 63 of Saint-Thomas de Kent, shares the news that he passed away on Thursday, July 15th, 2010 at the Dr Georges L Dumont Hospital, Moncton surrounded by his loving family. Born in Saint-Thomas de Kent on January 30th, 1947, he was the son of the late Adelard and the late Hélèna (Allain) Bastarache. He worked for NB Power for 30 years than upon his early retirement became a lobster fisherman for 12 years in Saint-Thomas de Kent. Normand will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 45 years Doris (Despres), his four children, Ginette Richard (Daniel) and grandchildren Julien and Jasmine of Grande-Digue, Maurice Landry (Nicole) and grandchildren Josiane, Melanie and Melodie of Saint-Louis de Kent, Rachelle Landry (Jean-Marc) and grandson William of Dieppe, Ricky Landry (Lynn) and grandchildren Gabrielle and Marcelle of Aldouane. He is also survived by his brothers Father Yvon Bastarache of Cuba, Gerard (Jeannita) of Saint-Thomas de Kent, and Robert of Cocagne, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by one brother Roger and one sister Simone.
Visitation will be held at Maillet Funeral Home, 29 rue de l'église, Bouctouche on Sunday, July 18th, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and on Monday from 9 to 10:45 am. Funeral Mass will be held at the Saint-Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, Bouctouche on Monday, July 19th, 2010. Internment will take place in the Saint-Pierre Cemetery, Cocagne. In Normand's memory donations can be made to the Dr Georges L Dumont Hospital Foundation.
