It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of a dear mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, Mary Elvina Henry, 78, of New Waterford on Friday, July 16, 2010 at home, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Annabel (MacDonald) MacMillan.
Mary was a loving wife and mother, who was always helping out and volunteering in her community. She was a past member of the Army, Navy and Airforce, Unit 217 Ladies Auxiliary; past member of the New Waterford Lioness Club; past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, New Waterford; a member of the New Waterford Pensioner's Club and was an avid dart shooter at one time.
She leaves to mourn her passing daughters, Sheila (Duggie) Leadbeater, New Waterford, Josie (Alex) Lynk, Scarborough, Ont., Carol (Gordon) Martell, Southbar, Edwina (Dwayne) Henry-Vardy, New Waterford; son, Bernie Henry, Oshawa, Ont.; sister, Olive Antle, London, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Rose Henry and Josephine Snyder; brother-in-law, Donnie Henry. She also leaves her loving 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by stepmother, Mary MacLellan; her husband, Edward; son, Neil; sister, Elizabeth Hogan; brothers, Sonny McMullin, Henry McMullin and Paddy McMullin
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford (862-7500). A Funeral Mass of Celebration will take place on Monday July 19, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating.
Interment will take place in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon in Mary's honour will be held immediately following in the parish hall, 310 Convent St.; New Waterford all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
