Derek Gardner, 62, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Caissie), of Moncton, passed away, surrounded by the ones he loved, on Friday, July 16, 2010 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 15, 1948 in Cole Harbour, NS, he was the son of the late Leonard Gardner and Jessie (Bissett) Gardner. Derek worked in the architectural hardware industry most of his life, ending his career at J.E. Hastings Ltd. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Derek particularly enjoyed cycling, hiking, geo-caching and photography. Besides his mother of Riverview and his wife of 36 years, he will be sadly missed by his three daughters: Lisa of Toronto, Tanya Richard (Bertin) of Dieppe, and Shannon of Moncton; his three adored grandchildren: Pierre, Catherine, Nicolas; his two dear sisters: Linda Gardner and Karen Silliker (John) both of Riverview.
In keeping with Derek's wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's R.C. Church, 150 Masters Road, Moncton, on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. In memory of Derek, a contribution to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
