The Sisters of Notre Dame Convent, Sydney Mines, and the family of Sister Ann Mary MacNeil regret to announce her sudden passing to eternal life at the CND Health Care Center, Sydney, on Friday, May 22, 2009.
Sister Ann Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph MacNeil and Christina Jobes of Sydney Mines.
During her 75 years as a Sister of the Congregation of Notre Dame she taught in St. Alban’s, Vermont; Holy Angels Convent, St. Joseph’s School, and St. Anthony Daniel School in Sydney and Rankin Memorial School, Iona. She was principal of St. Anthony Daniel School for several years.
Upon her retirement from teaching, she served in different administrative positions within the Congregation of Notre Dame in Iona, New Victoria, Truro, New Glasgow and Sydney Mines.
Throughout the Congregation and beyond, Sister Ann Mary was greatly respected and esteemed for her sound judgment, wisdom and integrity.
Sister is survived by her sisters, Camillus Ross and Loretta MacNeil of Halifax and Theresa Valley of Richmond Hill, Ont.; also many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary and brothers, Michael, Bernard and Lawrence.
Visitation for Sister Ann Mary will be held Monday, May 25, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A Bible Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place at Immaculate Conception Church, Convent Street, Sydney Mines on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Fr. Hughie MacNeil and Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Following the funeral liturgy all are invited to a reception at Notre Dame Convent, Sydney Mines.
