Louis and Lucienne LeMarellec

Louis and Lucienne LeMarellec

LEMARELLEC - Louis and Lucienne, formerly of Neville, SK, passed away within five weeks of each other. They were married for almost 61 years when Louis passed away on May 26, 2010, at Medicine Hat, AB, of cancer related complications. Lucienne passed away shortly after of one might say heartache related complications. Louis LeMarellec was born April 1, 1925, in Ploumilliau, France. Louis grew up in France and during the occupation in WW2 he had to quit school to work in a steel factory to provide for his mother, Ernestine, as his father, Eugene, had previously passed. He worked until the summer of 1949 when he immigrated to Canada to be with the love of his life Lucienne Unvoas whom he had been corresponding with since they met a couple years earlier during one of Lucienne's visits to her home country. He was 24 years old when he came over on the ship Samaria. He had never farmed before he came to Canada, but he threw himself into the tough life of farming in Saskatchewan and built a very good life for Lucy and their two children, Andre and Ginette. Louis enjoyed playing horseshoe with the neighbors, golf and camping in his motor-home. Louis was a one-of-kind character. He was tough, he was a puddle, he was stubborn, he was a joker, he was a dreamer, he was ambitious. He loved to laugh...he lived to love...he was Louis. Lucienne LeMarellec was born in Plouaret, France on November 17, 1923. She spent her early years in France, and at the age of 9 years she made the journey with her parents overseas to Canada and settled in the area of Neville, SK, where she grew up on the farm and attended the Titanic school. She later attended St. Joan of Arc school in Swift Current, completing Grade 11. At the time her mother Pauline became ill so she had to move back home to the farm to help her father Aristide. When her mother gained her health back, Lucy attended Teachers' College in Moose Jaw. Upon completion she began teaching at Valley St. Claire school, and after she was married, at Lac Pelletier Village School. Louis and Lucy married on August 8, 1949. Lucy was a dedicated wife and hard-working farm partner. Even though she drove school bus and taught French at Neville School over the years, she was fully committed to the farm, her husband, and their two children Andre and Ginette. She worked alongside her husband and son during busy farm times. But when she wasn't driving truck or the bus, she would be gardening, baking bread, canning or making crepes. Lucy was a fantastic cook! She was also very artistic. Oil painting, silk and dried flower arranging, cake decorating, cross-stitch, paper toll, ceramics and sewing to name a few. Lucy has touched all of our lives in so many ways. Her selflessness was always so evident in the things she would do for us. She was an inspiration to us all. Her presence will be missed everyday. She walked everywhere she wanted to so her legs got tired, she said everything she needed to say so her voice became weak. She loved as much as she could until her love left her...she followed him. The funeral service for Louis took place at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service for Lucienne took place at Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church. Interment service for both of them took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in the care of Warren's Funeral home. Louis and Lucy are survived by Louis' sister Alice Godard; and brother Lucien LeMarellec; son Andre LeMarellec (Dorothy Bosch); daughter Ginette LeMarellec; grandchildren Denise (Laine) Wall, Rena LeMarellec (Jeff Middleton), Kevin LeMarellec; and great grandaughter Hannah Biccum.
