Joanne Margaret (Leblanc) Babineau, 72, Truro, after a brief battle with cancer, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, May 24 2009.
Born in Amherst, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Edith (Rushton) Leblanc.
She is dearly loved and survived by her husband, of 53 years, William “Billâ€; children Jane Arsenault (Valmont) Magdalen Islands, Que.; Earl Babineau (Connie) Truro; Karen Mingo (Rick) Lower Onslow; Bryan Babineau (Lisa Borden) Lake Echo; six grandchildren Jennifer and Cindy Arsenault, Sarah Howlett, Lindsay and Jordan Babineau, James Borden, and one great-granddaughter Charlee Whidden, brother (G. E.) Mickey Leblanc (Marylin), Amherst.
She was a graduate of Saint Charles High School and Commercial School, Amherst. In 1965, she moved with her husband and three children to Truro. 1969 brought the addition of their fourth child. In 1970, she along, with her husband, founded Babineau’s Drafting Ltd. where she worked until retirement in 1999. As an active member of the community, Joanne was a member of the C.W.L. and a Girl Guide leader. She was giving of spirit and time, an active Block Parent as well as fundraising for many causes, including one of her favourites, the CEC band trips. Joanne happily chaperoned for many school trips. In her early years, Joanne loved family camping trips; bluegrass festivals and air shows. Joanne greatly enjoyed photography and kept an up-to-date, extensive family photo history. In her later years, Joanne was an avid reader and loved to surf the Internet and chat online with family members. Joanne especially enjoyed the chatter and laughter of family gatherings. She considered the raising of her children to be her greatest accomplishment. Joanne was known for her kind and generous personality, with a positive attitude towards life and a good nature that was contagious. She will be sorely missed.
Arrangements and cremation entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. No visitations by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince St., Truro, at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 28 followed by a reception in Campbell Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Victorian Order of Nurses, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
