The passing of Dorothy Muriel Halman of Fredericton, NB, wife of MacKenzie (Ken) Halman occurred at the York Manor Nursing Home on Friday, July 23rd, 2010 following a lenghty illness. Born in Saint John July 22nd, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary DeLong. In addition to her husband of 49 years she is survived by two sisters, Kathleen and Joan DeLong of Saint John, three sisters-in-laws, Muriel of Charlottetown, Carmen of Moncton and Maria Daigle of Saint John, also several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by six brothers, Murray, Gerard, Donald, Cecil, Vernon and Raymond.
Dorothy grew up in Saint John where she was a member of Stella Maris Church. A choir member and very active with the CYO in Saint John and later here in Fredericton. For many years she was a member of St. Dunstans Roman Catholic Church in Fredericton. She was past president of St. Dunstans CWL for two years and looked after the CWL marathon bridge for ten years. Dorothy was Office Manager of the Civilian Personnel Office in Base Gagetown and was retired from the Department of National Defence following 42 years of service. She was a past member of the Fredericton Business and Professional Women's Club, past president of the Epsilon Y's Menettes club and for many years volunteered at the Epsilon Y's Men's Canteen during the Exhibition week. Dorothy and Ken spent several winters in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and travelled extensively to many Regional Area and International Y's Men's Conventions in other countries. She was a gracious hostess in her own home on Montgomery Street and gave freely of her time and money for anyone in need.
The family will receive visitors at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street on Sunday, July 25th, 2010 from 2 to 4 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church on Monday, July 26th, 2010 at 12:00 Noon with Fr. Gerry White officiating. A reception will take place in the Monsignor Boyd Family Centre immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimers Society or to the charity of the donors choice. www.mcadamsfh.com
