It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our wonderful mother on Friday, July 23, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late William and Zelma (Conway) Leonard. She was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, Glace Bay.
In her early years, Mom worked at Woolworth's and Cochrane's Bakery in Glace Bay and in her later years at the Cara Restaurant at the Sydney Airport for 17 years as a cook.
Mom was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She always had a hug and a smile for everyone. Until her illness, she enjoyed playing bingo on Saturday nights at the Birch Grove Recreation Center. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She always had something nice to go with tea when you visited.
Mom will be sadly missed by daughters, Eileen Jewells (Bobby), Marina Warner (Robert), Helen MacNeil (Jimmy) and one son, Robert Lind - all of Glace Bay; sister, Eileen Cameron, Thunder bay, Ont.; brother, Tom Leonard (Norma), Glendale, Cape Breton; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Lind (1954); her second husband Bob MacLean (1997); daughter, Carolyn Ann Lind (2006); sisters, Muriel MacKillop, Margaret Prendergast; brothers, Lloyd and Bob; a grandchild at birth; grandson, Bill Jewells; and step-grandson, Sgt. Jimmy MacNeil.
Visitation for Jean will be held Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Anthony's Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Cremation will take place with burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association, as per mom's request.
