(1920 - 2009) Passed peacefully away on Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, Jeremiah “Jerry” Collins, age 88 years of St. John’s, formerly of Riverhead, Harbour Grace. Predeceased by his wife Theresa nee Maloney (July 2004) and his youngest son Craig, (February 1997). Leaving to mourn are his 10 children; Cathy (Terry) Conway, Bob (Alice), Jerry (Carol), Dolores (Ken) Rice, Joan (Ed) Murphy, Leone (Terry) Chafe, Debbie (Leo) Abbott, Corrinna (Steve) Sullivan, Garry (Helena) and John (Debbie), missing their Pop are his twenty-one grandchildren; Amy, Jeff (Glenda), Rob (Yvonne), Jason, Shawn, Jerry-James, Kim, Colin (Jackie), Eddie, Amanda, Christopher, Michael, Melanie, Mark (Eva), Melissa, Stephen (Holly), Stephanie, Shauna, Adam, Ashley and Leah. Also his five great-grandchildren, Daniel, Liam, Norah, Alex and Delilah; Jerry will be greatly missed by his inlaws, the Maloney family; Dan (Rose), Helen Neil, Gerald, Ned (Shirley) and his many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, especially Gerald and Diane Callahan. Jerry was the last surviving child of the late Mary Catherine (nee Yetman) and John Collins. He was predeceased by his brothers Jim (Benedicta), Harry, Mike (Margaret), Jack (Irene), Bernie (Eleanor) and his sister Nellie (Jim) Reynolds and infant siblings Peter, Willie, Bridget and Patrick. He was also predeceased by his father- and mother-in-law Daniel and May Maloney, Marie (Maloney) Ward, Eileen (Bernard) Farrell, Ches Neil, Cynthia Farrell Misch and his nephews Ray Reynolds and Paul Collins. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Monday, May 25th, 2009 and Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be held on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 at 10 a.m. from Holy Family Parish, St. Thomas Line, Paradise. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
