THICK - Jean (Jennie) passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the Gull Lake Special Care Center at the age of 90 years. Jean was born on the farm south of Webb on November 15, 1918, the fifth child of Charles Stewart Beattie and Mary Ann Beattie. Jean attended school at Seward until Grade 10. On January 2, 1939, she married Edwin Thick and moved to the family farm south of Beverly. Together they raised a family of 3 boys. She was a member of Seward Hill Community Club, Leader in the Yellow Lake 4-H Club, Sunday school teacher and a member of the Treasured Memories History Book Committee. Over the years Jean decorated numerous wedding and anniversary cakes, enjoyed curling, all kinds of board games, attending all of the grandchildren’s special events, spent many hours in her garden and enjoyed visits with many friends and family that would stop by for coffee and have to stay for a meal. Together she and Ed went on many holidays and bus tours. The funeral service was held on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the First United Church with Reverend Kevin Johnston officiating. The organist was Marilyn King. Cameron Thick read the eulogy. Ushers were Daryl and Donna Berggren. Pallbearers were Floyd Carefoot, Lorne Carefoot, Frank Glenn, Glenn Miller, David Johnston and Michael Mackay. The interment service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Swift Current, SK. Jean is survived by her sons: James (Vicky) Thick of Regina, SK, and their children Cameron Thick (fiancé - Amanda), Roxy (Trent) Rankin and Kurtis (Kim) Thick; Wayne (Sheila) Thick of Swift Current district and their children Melanie (Scott) Leppa, Michael (Barb) Thick and Amanda Thick (fiancé Jordan Wall); eight great grandchildren, Braiden, Brandt, Brynne and Brooklyn Leppa, Cassidy and Austen Thick and James and Hanna Rankin; brother, James Beattie of Swift Current, SK, and sisters Doris Lloyd of Calgary, AB, and Margaret Roosen of Langley, BC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Edwin Thick; her father Charles Beattie (1973) and mother Mary Ann Beattie (1964); son, Alvin Thick (1987); brother, Stewart Beattie; sisters, Laura Street, Helen Tetlock, Annie Hosick; brothers-in-law, Jim Street, John Tetlock, John Hosick, Kenneth Roosen and Ezra Lloyd.
