Boyd, Mona Marie - age 85, of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, in the Haliburton Place, Windsor. Born on July 20, 1925, in Sweets Corner, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Maude (Crowell) Cochrane. Mona took great pride in being a stay at home mom and homemaker. While at home, this allowed her to assist her husband Grant, in the family truck and bus business. She also provided day care for several local children and took in borders. In later years she was a caregiver for several elderly people in their homes, and this allowed her to live one of her dreams of being a nurse. Mona was well known for her baking skills, became an avid gardener and bird watcher after moving to Falmouth in 1984. She was a member of the Windsor United Baptist Church, where she was involved in several church activities. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Grant; daughter, Melodee Boyd, Halifax; sons, Robert "Bob", Falmouth; Grant Jr. (Sheena), Val des Monts, Quebec; and Bradley (Carrie Ann), Fall River; grandchildren, Trevor (Joanne), Jeffery, Wyatt, Rodney, Brenna, Kennedy, Nolan, great-granddaughter, Isabella "Bella"; daughter-in-law, Brenda Boyd, Cambridge, Ontario; sisters, Shirley (Don) Slatter, Windsor; Judith (Grant) Maxwell, Brooklyn, Hants County; aunt and sister-in-law, Bertha (Fred) Boyd, Sweets Corner; sisters-in-law, Beth Cochrane, Sweets Corner; Leona Cochrane, Richmond Hill, Ontario; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Glenna Somers; brothers, Harold "Buzz", Arnold, Reginald and Chester Cochrane; brother-in-law, Evan Somers; sisters-in-law, Marion Cochrane and Genevieve Cochrane. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, in the Windsor United Baptist Church, 411 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. Dr. Jeff Hosick and The Rev. Barb Cochran officiated, followed by a private family interment, in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth. A reception was held at the Windsor United Baptist Church Hall. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Mona, were requested to be made to Haliburton Place (Garden Fund); the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to a charity of one's choice.
