Ralph Rindahl
RINDAHL - On July 30, 2010, at the age of 85 years, Ralph Milton Rindahl passed away surrounded by his family at Cypress Regional Hospital. He grew up in the Hovdestad area and married Mabel on August 5, 1950, at Nordland Lutheran Church. Until his early 70's, Ralph farmed the Rindahl homestead and drove the school bus. He took great pride in the farm, particularly in the yard always making sure the grass was cut and the garden tilled. Things were always tidy and organized. Farming kept Ralph busy during the summer months and for several years, Ralph, Mabel and Bobby spent the winters in Smithers, BC, where Ralph worked in a saw mill. After retiring, Ralph still loved to spend time and help out at the farm especially when Bobby was seeding or harvesting. Although he had moved off the farm and into the city, Ralph was always eager to re-connect with old friends by attending events put on by the Stewart Valley Seniors Club and community. Ralph was also very proud of his Norwegian heritage and was an active member of the Swift Current Scandinavian Club. In his younger years, Ralph enjoyed fishing with his son, Bobby, brother-in-law Johnny Furseth and special nephews Myron and Myles Furseth. Ralph's hobbies included collecting coins and bird watching. Ralph often gave coins as gift to loved ones. Silver dollars were given to mark special events. Living in the country with his wife of 59 years, Mabel, is what made Ralph happy. He loved to be outdoors both in the summer and winter. In the spring he would often walk through the hills looking for crocuses. Bird watching was another hobby of Ralph's and he was entertained by birdhouses at the farm both in the yard and a nearby coulee. Throughout his life, Ralph had several dogs. The most recent one, a Norwegian elkhound named "Olaf" was his best friend and was never far behind as Ralph did chores around the farm yard. In between chores, Ralph enjoyed Mabel's good Norwegian-inspired country cooking. No matter what the task, there was always time for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake! Ralph was predeceased by his wife Mabel, parents John and Martha Rindahl, brother Leonard Rindahl and brother in infancy. He is survived by his son Bob (Mary Lou); granddaughter Jennifer (Ryan); great granddaughter Mila (Jennifer and Ryan); grandson Jordan; special nephews Myles (Debbie) and Myron (Lynda) Furseth; numerous nieces and nephews and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The funeral service was held Tuesday August 3 at 1:00 PM at St. Olaf's Lutheran Church with Pastor Linda Hall officiating. The ushers were Jerome Austring and Duane Olson. Pallbearers were Kyle Furseth, Andrew Furseth and nephews Garth Palmer, Myles Furseth, Myron Furseth and Darcy Moen. The internment took place at the Nordland Lutheran Church in the Hovdestad District. Ralph's presence and gentle way will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Warren's Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
