Lydia C. Cormier, 95, wife of Yvon B. Cormier, of Moncton, passed away on Tuesday August 10, 2010 at the Moncton Hospital. Born on October 5, 1914 in Lochaber Mines, NS, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Pearl (Duke) MacCarthy. At an early age, Lydia showed excellent marketing and networking skills. Her business thrived, and grew to include three beauty shops in Kentville, NS, and a seasonal salon in Digby Pines. She and her husband also purchased the Kentville Arena. In 1950, she moved with her husband to Moncton, NB, where she opened her first Moncton shop which she operated under the name Lydia's Beauty Salon. Lydia was a leader in forming the New Brunswick Hairdressers' Association. In 1993, she was inducted into the Atlantic Association of Women Business Owners Hall of Fame. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Yvon B. Cormier; one daughter: Linda Ermen (Ronald) of Grand-Barachois; one daughter-in-law: Marie Cormier of Summerside, PEI; two brothers: Howard MacCarthy (June) and Lloyd MacCarthy (late Rita), both of Auburn, NS; five grandchildren: Roderick "Duke" Cormier, Jason Cormier, Angela Fullerton, Derek Ermen and Dawn Ermen-Cormier; nine great-grandchildren: Max, Josh, Hannah, Luca, Matteo, Zoe, Ava, Seth and Emma; two great-great-grandchildren: Mitchel and Cobain. She was predeceased by one son: Roderick; two sisters: Mildred and Christine as well as one brother: Wilfred.
There will be no visiting hours. The funeral service will be held at Frenette's Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Friday August 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. In memory of Lydia, a contribution to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. www.frenettefuneralhome.com
