WILLIAM BITTERMAN

1914 ~ 2010

William (Bill) Bitterman of Kamloops passed away on July 25, 2010 at the age of 96.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his two daughters, Darlene (Robert) Nowland of Kamloops, and their children Christine (Alex), Michael (Leanna), Jason, Loren (Caitlin), Bonnie (Lawrence) Zevick of Surrey and their children Billy (Aiste), Tanya (Patrick), and two great grandchildren Sierra and Zoe, and his sister Norma Zieroth of Toronto.

Predeceased by his loving wife Tiny (Ruth) on March 9, 1999.

Born February 20, 1914, the second son of Jacob and Christina Bitterman in Halkirk, Alberta. In the 1920's in his youth the family moved to Kelowna passing through the treacherous Rocky Mountains on harrowing roads. His parents and the children George, Bill, Mabel, Martha, Fred, Ted and Norma then moved to Oliver in 1929. There he became part of the community for the next 74 years. About 1935 while at the summer dance pavilion at Tuc-El-Nuit Lake he met Tiny (Ruth) Dalton. They married in 1940 and this dance lasted 59 years. After Bill returned from the Army at the end of WW2, they settled on road 10 to raise their two daughters Darlene and Bonnie. Bill was a gentle man who loved to fish with his handmade fly fishing hooks, hunt and build things. His creativity was more than the average handyman, he could put his hands to any job from a broken piece of farm equipment to building his own home.

Many will remember Bill from his many years working at the Oliver Co-Op packing house in the 1930's and the BC Fruit Shippers and the Hains Co-Op packing houses till the late 1980's.

A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
