1920 - 2010 - Freda M. Shaffer, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2010 at the Jordan Lifecare Centre after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her parents Walter and Jennie Steeves, her sister Wilda Mitchell, her brother Lewis Steeves, and her husband Frank Shaffer who passed away in 1977. Freda is survived by her son Dennis Shaffer (Ann) of Moncton; daughter, Joyce Milton (James) of Quispamsis; grandchildren: Stephen Shaffer of Moncton, Bethany Shaffer (Kevin) of Riverview, Scott Milton (Genevieve) of Moncton and Trent Milton (Heather) of Halifax. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Justin, Allyson, and Kevin Shaffer; two sisters: Inez Colpitts and Alice Tait; sister-in-law Elsie Steeves, brother-in-law Tom Mitchell, and by several nieces and nephews. Freda and Frank lived on their farm in Pleasant Vale for over 30 years before moving to Elgin in 1973. She was a wonderful cook and everyone loved her marble cake and homemade bread and rolls. She loved to quilt, and her family has many of her quilts to treasure. Freda was a long-time member of the Pleasant Vale United Church and the Pleasant Vale Women's Institute.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM; the funeral service will be held on Friday August 13, 2010 at 2 PM with Rev. Bob Campbell officiating, all in Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac. Interment will be held in the New Elgin Cemetery.
